Ivalice is inhabited by five very different races, each with their own history and culture, as well as their own strengths and weaknesses. Despite, or perhaps because of, their great differences, the five races interact harmoniously and work together in Clans.
Humes, also known as Humans, are the most populous and versatile race in Ivalice. The most balanced race by far, Humes can handle physically demanding jobs with ease, and are fairly adept at magic. Their all-around versatility allows them to handle the widest variety of jobs of all the races.

Viera are a curious people of the woods, who resemble a cross between Humes and rabbits. Highly intelligent, very agile, and knowledgeable of numerous magics, these beautiful beings are highly desirable clan members.

Bangaa are large, stocky, intimidating reptiles with notoriously short fuses and a hatred of being called "lizards". Strong and fierce fighters, Bangaa stand alone as the race which shares no job classes with any other race.
