Something is bothering me, and I can't sleep.
I don't think Kubo Mitsuo is the bastard we've been chasing all these months.
For one thing, he didn't seem to have a clue what was happening...wouldn't the real culprit have known exactly what was going on?
For that matter, wouldn't he have needed a Persona to even GET into the other world?
There's something else. And I know this is inductive, rather than deductive, reasoning, but...
A couple years ago, there was this show, Mousou Dairinin. I don't normally watch anime (I'm in high school for crying out loud!), but I watched it on the recommendation of a friend. It turned out to be this intensely fucked up psychological drama...
Anyway, there was this one kid who claimed to be the serial assault suspect codenamed "Shounen Bat". He was completely lost off inside his own little fantasy world and really believed life was some kind of big roleplaying game.
Kubo Mitsuo reminds me of that kid.
I don't think this is over yet...not by a long shot.

The dinner party was a hilarious fiasco. Satonaka's cooking is as bad as it was the last time I tried to eat it. Yukiko-san's cooking has improved only in that now it has absolutely no flavor whatsoever. Risette, for all her boastful proclamations of being an excellent chef, produced something so horrifically spicy it KOed Yukiko-san with one bite.
For the record, the only thing wrong with mine was it was a little too salty. I blame Tatsumi.
...I'm his senpai. I can DO that.
Anyway, Teddie's decided to stay in our world instead of going back to the empty TV world, and we've all made plans to go to the summer festival next month together.

Kubo needs professional help. Seriously. There's such a thing as getting way too into your video games.
We tracked Kubo down to a part of the other world that was modelled after some old Famicom game. And I mean really modelled after it—it was completely 8-bit in there.
We discovered that everything going on in Inaba is all a big game to Kubo, and then we finally found him and confronted his Shadow, which took on the form of a giant baby throwing a tantrum, and protected itself with a giant video game hero sprite made out of cubes of light.
I swear to God I am not making this up.
We defeated Kubo's Shadow, but unlike the other cases in which a defeated Shadow became a Persona, Kubo's just...disappeared. That worries me.
Kubo confessed to the three murders, and we turned him over to the police. He claims his motive is nothing more than extreme sociopathy. Everyone is pissed that he committed these crimes for no reason other than attention, but at the same time, relieved that it's all over with.
We're having a dinner party at my place to celebrate our success. Somehow, "dinner party" turned into "extreme cooking competition" in concept and execution, but...what the hell. After what we've been through, we NEED something silly to do.

So his name is Kubo Mitsuo...

So this is what real police work must be like, huh...?
It's taking us a while to figure out who this guy even IS.
7/27/11 (Wed)
17:00
We spent the afternoon combing the town, asking everyone for anything they might know. We turned up nothing. But we have a hunch we might be able to get what we need from Adachi-keiji...

We gathered at Junes to discuss the latest Midnight Channel star. Teddie and Risette went into the other world to look for him, but couldn't turn up anything, and since we don't even know this guy's NAME, it's going to be a lot tougher on us this time...
One thing we're almost certain of though: the guy in the TV this time? Is the bastard we've been looking for all this time.

Someone showed up on the Midnight Channel! We have no clue who the guy is, but Teddie thinks he's figured out what's causing the Midnight Channel to appear in the first place. Putting that aside for now, we've gotta help the latest victim...

Exam results have been posted. I made the top ten percent again!
Summer vacation begins Wednesday. ...you know, I wonder why they start it in the middle of the week...weird...
7/23/11 (Sat)
18:00
Exams are FINALLY over.
After school, we all met at Junes to confer about the situation. We learned, through Adachi-keiji's habit of talking out loud, that the police are not really any closer to catching their suspect. Also, Risette made a rather...alarmingly bold pass at me, right in front of everyone. YIKES.
7/14/11 (Thu)
19:00
We decided to go into the TV for training today—I think it was mostly because Satonaka wanted to blow off studying for exams. It was our first training trip with Teddie, and I was surprised! Teddie is...actually amazing in combat! Who knew?
Risette found out I'm keeping a record of everything that's happening, and she wants to add her own section, "Maru-Q Shadow Report". I said maybe. I really meant no, because it means more work for me, and I've already got enough to deal with as it is.
Maybe during summer break.
7/13/11 (Wed)
18:00
...did I imagine it, or is Yukiko-san...?
7/12/11 (Tue)
17:00
Ugh. It's exam week again.
7/11/11 (Mon)
18:00
While we were discussing the latest case developments, Shirogane showed up and told us the police have a suspect. I want to think this means this whole thing is drawing to a close, but...
Somehow, I don't think so.
In any case, we probably need to go back into the other world soon to give Teddie some combat experience, and Rise some experience with her new analysis powers. She won't be going into combat with us, but it seems like she'll be a more useful support member than Teddie ever was...

HOLY SHIT! Talk about trading up!
We met our new homeroom teacher, Kashiwagi-sensei, today. Hottest. Teacher. EVER!
...yeah I can't even keep a straight face while I'm WRITING that. She THINKS she's the hottest teacher ever. She's kind of on the wrong side of forty for that, though. Still, she can't possibly be worse than King Moron.

Okay, after Teddie's bombshell, other stuff happened today. First, we ran into that kid in the hat again. This time, he introduced himself as Shirogane Naoto, and he's that detective Ojisan was so pissed off about. He seems to have made the same deductions we made about the previous incidents, and also noticed the incongruity when it comes to the case of King Moron.
The other thing that happened is: Rise has joined our group.
7/10/11 (Sun)
15:00
WHAT THE FUCK?!
Teddie isn't hollow anymore! He took his head off at Junes, and...there's an incredibly bishounen guy inside there now! Holy shit, what the hell?!
7/10/11 (Sun)
12:00
Even though we saved Rise...there was still a murder! This morning, King Moron was found hanging from a rooftop, much like the first victim. He was never even ON the Midnight Channel!!
While this is baffling and disturbing and makes our job a hell of a lot harder, I honestly can't say I'm sorry King Moron's dead. He was the world's biggest asshole, and quite honestly the world is better off without him.
Things got even stranger than that today, though...Teddie decided to come into OUR world! Luckily, everyone assumed he was some new Junes mascot and didn't worry about it.
