After School

Tennis practice is cancelled because the surface of the practice court was badly damaged by the recent flooding. Coach says it's going to take the rest of the week to repair it. Since I don't have anything better to do, I decide to get my Valentine's shopping done. I decide to swing by Sterling Silver's shop to look for something for Pinkie Pie. Silver Spoon gives me a small, hesitant smile as I walk in.

"I'm glad you decided to come back," she says. "I...I'm sorry I upset you by..." She shakes her head. "What can I do for you today?"

"I'm just browsing," I say. "I have a friend I want to get something nice for...I don't think it'll be a custom order today."

As I start to look in the cases, I can feel Silver Spoon's eyes on me. After a few minutes, she says, "Umm...I...I was hoping I'd get a chance to talk to you again."

I look at her. "You were?"

"Yeah." She looks down at the counter, toying with her hair. "Is...is Apple Bloom okay?"

"I think so, yeah."

"Good." Silver Spoon sighs. "I've been thinking a lot lately...about the way Diamond Tiara treats the other kids at school."

"Why are you friends with someone like that?" I ask. "When I first met you, you seemed really nice..."

She blushes. "I..." She wrings her hands. "Di and I grew up together. My dad's rich, her dad's rich...we're in the same circles. But..." She looks down again. "My dad doesn't like to flaunt...you know. And he...doesn't want me to act like, well..."

"Like Diamond Tiara?"

"Yeah." Silver Spoon grimaces. "I guess...until all this mess with Apple Bloom, I didn't really realize how mean she is." She sighs. "How mean I was. I..." She shakes her head. "I want to change. I didn't really realize until now that...I don't have any friends. Just Diamond Tiara." She looks miserable... "Can...can I ask a favor?"

"Okay...?"

"Do...do you mind if...if I call you sometimes, to...to talk? I need somebody to talk to...somebody to help me figure stuff out." She looks hopeful. "Please? I know this is kinda out of nowhere, but..." She blushes. "I think you're pretty cool, and I just...I'd like to show you I'm a better person than what you saw the other day."

Silver Spoon wants to turn over a new leaf...

Her friend Diamond Tiara is a poisonous little viper. I'm sure a girl like that is going to make it hard for Silver Spoon to break away and become a better person...

"Sure."

Silver Spoon smiles. "Thank you."

I exchange contact information with Silver Spoon. After browsing for a bit, I decide on a cute charm bracelet that I think Pinkie will like. After that, I head to the mall to look around for something good for Twilight.

Evening

I end up staying at the mall until almost closing time, doubling back to the food court twice for lousy but edible food and watered-down drinks. I find a few nice things for Twilight, for myself, and for the others. I almost don't make curfew at the dorm; as soon as I stash everything I bought in my closet, I hit the sack.
